What Fluent Search provides

Fluent Search 1.0.1.4 brings files, applications, open windows, browser tabs and history into a keyboard-driven Windows launcher. Screen search, filters and plugins extend the workflow, but each data source has a separate privacy and performance cost. A small, deliberate index is a better starting point than scanning every disk.

Index and integration boundaries

A local index can expose file names and paths even when file contents stay on the device. Browser integrations, screen search and community plugins may read a wider working context or make network requests. Exclude password stores, keys, browser profiles, backups and temporary download directories until the data flow is understood.

Architecture and maintenance

The current package set includes x64 and ARM64 installers, portable packages and APPX builds for Windows 10 and 11. ARM64 builds should be tested with the required plugins and browser integrations before a wider rollout. Review date: 2026-08-23.

GUIDE

Fluent Search 1.0.1.4 indexing and desktop-search guide

Install the package matching the CPU architecture, index one small test folder, verify file, application and window results, and enable browser sources or plugins only after checking their scope.

Before you start

  • Confirm Windows 10 or 11 and the x64 or ARM64 architecture, and record any existing system-wide shortcut that could conflict.
  • Create a test folder with ordinary files; keep password stores, customer data, cloud-drive roots and system directories out of the first index.
  • Decide whether browser tabs, history and plugins are needed, since they broaden the data and network surface.
01

Installation steps

  1. 01

    Choose the 1.0.1.4 package

Select the signed installer, portable ZIP or APPX for x64 or ARM64, then verify the version and update behavior after launch.

  2. 02

    Configure a least-privilege installation

Prefer a current-user installation, inspect the signature and hash, and avoid granting administrator rights merely to enable search.

  3. 03

Set a shortcut and test index

Choose an unused invocation shortcut, add only the test folder, wait for indexing to finish and record exclusions, database location and resource use.

02

Quick start

  1. 01

    Verify files, apps and windows

Search for a test file, an installed application and an open window, then check the source, ranking and action before enabling destructive actions.

  2. 02

    Test screen search and tags

Use screen search on an ordinary interface and add a search tag to narrow results; avoid password, payment and private-workspace screens.

  3. 03

Enable browser sources one at a time

Turn on tabs, history or a plugin only when needed, review permissions and network activity, and retest CPU and disk use after each change.

Usage tips

  • The index database can reveal file names and directory structure, so protect it with the same care as the indexed files.
  • Screen search can read the current interface; pause it before opening credentials, payment details or customer information.
  • Plugins are extra code and a supply-chain surface. Keep only the required extensions and recheck permissions after updates.
Troubleshooting and uninstall

Why is a new file missing from the results?

Check the indexed path, exclusion rules, permissions and index state, then rebuild only the test folder. Adding the entire system disk usually hides the real configuration issue.

Why are CPU or disk usage still high?

Pause new data sources, exclude build caches, dependency trees, virtual machines and rapidly changing folders, then wait for the index to settle before rebuilding a minimal scope.

  1. Export needed settingsPreserve shortcuts, exclusions and required tags, then clear query history, file paths, browser data and plugin tokens that are no longer needed.
  2. Remove the app and indexUninstall the installed build or remove the portable directory, clean its index and cache locations as appropriate, and restore the previous system shortcut.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Fluent Search upload indexed file contents?

The page describes a local file index, but plugins and web or browser sources can have separate data paths. Exclude sensitive directories and review current settings and network behavior before enabling integrations.

Is the ARM64 package feature-equivalent to x64?

The package set includes native ARM64 builds, but plugin, browser integration and update behavior should be tested on the target device before deployment.

Can Fluent Search replace file permissions?

No. Search is a navigation layer, not an access-control boundary. Use operating-system accounts and directory permissions to protect shared or sensitive files.
